Product Description
Colonial Mexico, c. mid 1800’s. Fantastic iron signal cannon with wood cart. The cannon’s body is cast-iron with a thick, elongated form. There is an astragal at the back, a small circular fuse hole, and is mounted to its wooden cart via two swivel rods. The two iron wheels still work and roll nicely. The top of the barrel is personalized with stippled letters appearing to read ”JI". The total length including the cart is 13.5 inches; the cannon measures 10.25 inches.

FAQ
In those early times signal cannons were used to communicate between ships (galleons) and forts on the land upon entering a harbor etc. No means of communication could reach that far so they fired off various coded series of booms to communicate.
