First Jewish War. The Jewish Revolt Against Rome, 66-70 C.E. Bronze prutah. Dated year 2 (67/68 C.E.) The front depicts a two handled amphora, ancient Hebrew inscription "Year Two" around / The back depicts a Grape leaf on a small vine, "The Freedom of Zion" in Hebrew around. Coin reference: Meshorer 196; Hendin 1360 for type. Dark olive green patina with Holy Land earthen highlights. Coin diameter 16mm, encapsulated and graded Fine by NGC. An excellent specimen! Archival slab measures 3.125" x 2.125" x 0.375” Provenance: Ex De Père, WI collection. *** This coin was minted and circulated during the time of Josephus, the Jewish War and the standoff at Masada. Although this coin was found elsewhere in Israel, these very same types of coins have been excavated atop the mountaintop fortress of Masada, and have earned the name "Masada coins".Accompanied by a hand-signed certificate of authenticity which includes all the details, culture, dating, motifs/inscriptions when applicable, historical relevance, and provenance.
