Product Description

Ancient Greece, late 5th to 4th Century BC. A rare painted pottery lebes gamikos, decorated with olive sprigs. A form of Greek pottery primarily used in marriage ceremonies, literally translating to “marriage vase”. It was likely used in the ritual sprinkling of the bride with water before her wedding. This fine example includes a removable pottery lid. A wonderful and graceful display-piece!
