Product Description

This specimen is a museum-quality, transitional meteorite between octahedrite and pallasite with core-mantle border. A truly remarkable piece for any collection, this meteorite slice includes a display box so it's ready to show off.

The pallasites are a class of stony–iron meteorite. It consists of centimeter-sized olivine crystals of peridot quality in an iron-nickel matrix. Coarser metal areas develop Widmanstätten patterns upon etching. Minor constituents are schreibersite, troilite, chromite, pyroxenes, and phosphates (whitlockite, stanfieldite, farringtonite, and merrillite).

FAQ
Is Pallasite more rare than other Seymchan meteorites which simply show the pattern revealed in a slice of meteorite?

Pallasites represent less than 0.2% of all known meteorites. They are special because they have translucent yellow or green crystals of the gem mineral olivine (associated with the peridot gemstone) naturally embedded in the nickel-iron metal.
