Product Description
The Geiger is an unusual clock made from an original Polish DP-66 Cold War Geiger counter. The Geiger Counters date to the late 1960s early 1970s—the actual date of manufacture is moulded into the bakelite casing of each one. The counters have been carefully dismantled and cleaned up before being upcycled into 4-tube Nixie Clocks. All the original looks and features of the counter have been kept; the dial still illuminates and the pointer is set to show a reading.
Nixie tubes were invented in 1955, and were a means for early electronic devices to display numbers. They consist of a clear glass tube, with the numbers from 0 – 9 are stacked behind each other. The tube is filled with neon gas and then sealed. Each digit has its own connection, and when a small electrical current is applied, the neon gas around the digit is ionized, which causes the distinctive orange glow. There is no heat produced, so the tubes can last up to 20 years.

FAQ
The measurement of 5.5" is to the top of the clock, so it includes the tubes.
Does it still work as a Geiger counter too?No, when they are received to be converted, they are missing the probes/detector part. The insides are removed to fit in the electronics for the clock circuitry.
