Product Description

Brothers Enzo and Gianni Boglietti established their winery in 1991 after growing up farming their father's original vineyard in La Morra, Italy. In a short time, the family’s holdings have grown to include just over 50 acres of combined single vineyard sites, most of which lie on Piedmont’s famed “golden slope”, some of which boast 100-year-old-plus plant material. The Boglietti lineup has few rivals in terms of energy and depth of character. Their grapes are sustainably farmed, picked by hand, and fermented with native yeasts.

This bottle of 2013 Enzo Boglietti Barolo was awarded 94 points by James Suckling for its fine bouquet of violets and red and black fruits with hints of oak. This wine is a full-bodied, racy Barolo of huge structure with nice, medium acidity that delivers a very long and elegant finish.

Guerrieri-Rizzardi, the historic house in Veneto, Italy, dates back to the unification of two ancient estates in 1913, when Carlo Rizzardi from Valpolicella, married Guiseppina Guerrieri of Bardolino. From the 1950s Antonio Rizzardi managed and developed the estates, focusing on viticulture and in the 1970s, he acquired the estate in Soave. In 2011, he opened a new winery on the hills of Bardolino. This winery is completely solar powered, combining the best that technology offers in a carbon neutral way with vineyards that have been in the family for centuries.

This bottle of 2011 Guerrieri Rizzardi Calcarole Amarone has very fine, pure, dark berried fruit balanced by freshness and vitality. It was awarded 94 Points by Ian D’Agata of Vinous, who said: "[This wine is a] deep ruby-red, with a hint of an amber rim. [It offers] red cherry, dark plums, botanical herbs and minerals on the enticing nose, [and it's] dense and very suave, with ripe red cherry, tobacco and sweet spice flavors that are precise, focused and multilayered. [It] finishes long and vibrant, offering lingering savory nuances and hints of faded rose petals. Just a whiff of excess alcohol here lowers my score, but at 16% alcohol, this olfactory sensation is practically unavoidable. A knockout Amarone; unless memory fails me, this may well be the best young Calcarole I have tasted. A blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Barbera, aged three years in barriques and barrels."
