Product Description

Black Ivory Coffee is among the most rare and expensive coffees in the world with a 2021 Vintage of only 470 lb. Each envelope contains 1.23 ounces of whole roasted Thai Arabica coffee beans that have been naturally refined by elephants. Elephants are large and herbivores so the fermentation process is slow and intense. This gives more time for the flavors of the sweet cherry skins and pulp to mix with the coffee bean. The result is a smooth, sweet flavor with notes of chocolate, tamarind, spice, a hint of grass, and none of the bitter burnt aftertaste. No matter your level of expertise with coffee, Black Ivory Coffee provides a truly distinctive and unique experience.

Black Ivory Coffee is a socially conscious business that considers the welfare of the elephants and conservation of their habitat as critical in the making of their unique coffee. All of the elephants are treated with the utmost care from their full-time caregivers with treats like daily baths, play-time, and of course those luscious coffee cherries. Black Ivory Coffee also donates a portion of its proceeds to the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation in Northern Thailand to send local children to a national park where they can see wild elephants for the first time and learn about the need for habitat protection.

FAQ
Is this coffee bean picked out of the elephant poop?

100% of the original Black Ivory Coffee beans have been naturally refined by elephants. This means the elephants voluntarily snack on the coffee cherries, go through their digestive process, it is then deposited on the ground, washed, dried, hulled, sorted, and roasted at over 200C/392F before having near-boiling water poured over the ground coffee during the brewing process.

What does naturally refined by elephants mean?

It means that the elephants have voluntarily snacked on the 100% Thai Arabica coffee cherries where they then undergo a natural fermentation process inside the stomach of the elephant. What happens inside the stomach is similar in terms of the fermentation process to grapes that sit in a vat to make wine.

At 1.23 oz, how much brewed coffee should one expect to produce?

It really depends on the brewing method. For example, with a pour-over the ratio is around 1:16. Hence with 1.23 oz one should be able to make almost 20 fl oz of coffee.
