What does "Naturally refined by elephants" mean?Naturally refined means that Thai elephants voluntarily snack on ripe coffee cherries in addition to their favorite foods. Together this is ingested and over 1-3 days the cherries go through a fermentation process which affects the taste in the stomach of the elephant. It is a very similar process to that of wine where the stomach acts as a grape vat. The beans are then deposited on the ground, picked, washed, hulled, hand-sorted, roasted and packed before they arrive to you.
