Product Description

We are pleased to offer for sale this FRANK LESLIE’S ILLUSTRATED NEWSPAPER DATED NEW YORK MARCH 15, 1862. (This is a reprint from 1962).

On the top of the front page is a picture of “CAPTURE OF FORT DONNELSON – WOUNDED SOLDIERS BURINING TO DEATH ON THE BATTLEFIELD” (see pics). This was very usual in battles around forests. When the cannon shells explode it would start a forest fire. For those unfortunate soldiers that were wounded, they were not able to move, and therefore would burn to death.

On the bottom of the top page is “THE WAS IN TENNESSEE – GROUP OF REBEL PRISONORS CAPTURED AT FORT DONELSON, ON THE MORNING AFTER THE SURRENDER, CLOTHED IN BED BLANKETS, PIECES OF CARPETING, ETC” (see pics).

The paper has 16 pages full of other pictures, commentaries, and some very cool advertisements from that era. One from Tiffany and Company. Plus there are arms and Military goods, rifles bullets, a soldiers bullet proof vest, Kentucky Bourbon, shirts, and much more. The paper gave a vivid picture of typical American life during the decades of its publication. It has a price of 10 cents, which was a lot of money back then!

THIS IS HISTORY IN YOUR HANDS. The paper has been folded in half and is fragile so take care when you open it. The paper gave a vivid picture of typical American life during the decades of its publication. It has a price of 10 cents, which was a lot of money back then!
