Product Description

Being offered today is a HIGH GRADE CHANGEOVER PAIR OF $1 Dollar 1923 Large size series Silver Certificate Note.

Changeover Pairs are an interesting phenomenon that occurred during the early years of printing currency. Changeover pairs are consecutive notes that transition to a different signature combination. On this pair, the first signature is Speelman/White, and the consecutive note signature is Woods/White.

This process occurred because the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) workers kept using old plates due to high engraving costs. Some signatures were already engraved into the plates even long after a signer had left their office, or the plates would be used until they wore out or were retired.

They would group together various face and back plates on the same press. After the first and second printing (where the differences of series would occur) the sheets would be cut and compiled into one stack. All that was left was the third printing which contained the serial numbers. The stack of partially completed notes would be numbered in sequence.

The color just pops off the notes. The margins are centered very well, and the ink just pops off the notes.  The colors are bright and bold. The vibrant colors and well preserved paper add to the visual eye appeal. The notes have fantastic eye appeal.   The notes show no sign of wear on the corners or the sides.  All of the corners and edges of the notes are crisp and clean.  There are no pinholes, rips, stains, or tears.

The notes will be encased in a long-term preservation holder. The holder is made to enhance the presentation of the encapsulated note and protects against tampering. The notes pictured are the exact notes you will receive.

If you are an avid collector of true quality currency, then these notes are for you. This opportunity is for the discerning currency enthusiast who has been waiting for a TOP QUALITY offer such as this. So, if you are looking for something out of the ordinary, then look no further.

If you take a look at the pictures, it will show red and blue fibers in the notes. This was another way that the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) prevented these notes from being counterfeited.

This was the last large size US dollar bill issued. This note was called the “Saddle Back” or “Horse blanket” due to the fact of the design on the back and the size of the note. (see pictures).
