A mule note is a note that has a micro plate number on one side, and a macro plate number on the other. Micro numbers measure 0.6mm and macro numbers measure 1mm high.

Changeover Pairs are an interesting phenomenon that occurred during the early years of printing currency. Changeover pairs are consecutive notes that transition to a different series. In this case the notes are 1934 to 1934 A. They are highly sought after for their rarity and collectability.

This process occurred because the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) workers kept using old plates due to high engraving costs. Some signatures were already engraved into the plates even long after a signer had left their office, or the plates would be used until they wore out or were retired.

They would group together various face and back plates on the same press. After the first and second printing (where the differences of series would occur) the sheets would be cut and compiled into one stack. All that was left was the third printing which contained the serial numbers. The stack of partially completed notes would be numbered in sequence.

The notes are from the Cleveland Series, which is designated by the “D” on the left side of both notes. (see pics). These changeover pairs with book ends in this high grade rarely come up for sale, so here is your opportunity to obtain a set for your collection or investment portfolio!! This set of notes is virtually impossible to find in this condition.

The color just pops off the notes. The margins are centered very well, and the ink just pops off the notes.  The colors are bright and bold.
