There is a lot of history all over this note. I try to give you as much information as I can find. There is more research that can be done. It just adds to the fun and excitement of collecting currency!
The Pacific National Bank Of San Francisco was located in San Francisco County and was assigned charter number 12579. The note displays the Charter Number of the bank 12579 in deep blue ink. This has big bold “Poker Chip” blue seal on the lower right of the note.
Despite saying series of 1902, these notes were actually issued by national banks between 1908 and 1928.
The note is dated September 8, 1924 and was printed in San Francisco.
The bank cashier was V.R. Pentecost and the bank president was HR Gaither. They held these titles from 1928-1935. Even though the note is dated in 1924, it was issued after 1928 when they were in these positions at the bank.
This national bank opened in 1924 and stopped printing money in 1935, which equals a 12 year printing period. That is actually quite brief in terms of bank existence.
On the upper left the note has:
“SECURED BY UNITED SATES BONDS DEPOSITED WITH THE TREASURY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”
A portrait of Ben Harrison who was a Civil War General and the 23rd President of The United States is featured on the front left side of the note. This happens to be the smallest denomination issued for the 1902 series.
The reverse of the note features the landing of the pilgrims on Plymouth Rock.
The signatures of the Register of the Treasury is H.V. Speelman and the Treasurer of the United States is Frank White.
