1884 Carson City Morgan Dollar
Product Description
Being offered today is a beautiful example of a 1884 Carson City Morgan Dollar.
Carson City (CC) Morgan dollars in government holders are highly collectible. Original uncirculated coins were released by the General Services Administration (GSA) between 1972 and 1980 from the Treasury vault hoards.
They are housed in distinct, rigid black plastic holders with a clear top, often accompanied by a blue-lined box and certificate of authenticity.
The GSA hoard of Carson City Morgan Dollars was primarily discovered and bought to light in the early 1960’s. An massive inventory audit in1964 revealed nearly 3 million uncirculated coins in the Treasury vaults.
In 1980 silver value for a Morgan Dollar was more than $ 1 dollar. This sparked a huge sell off of silver coins. Hundreds of thousands of coins were melted.
This coin is an unusually nice high-end survivor with a sharp strike. All of this adds to its visual eye appeal.
On the front of the coin, all of the lines on Miss Liberty’s face, the lettering, the flowers in her hair are all well-defined. It features a profile portrait of Miss Liberty wearing a cap, flora, and a crown with the word “LIBERTY”.
On the back of the coin, the eagle and all the feathers as well as the lettering are all well-defined. It features a bald eagle clutching an olive branch in its right claw representing peace, and in its left claw are three arrows symbolizing the nation’s ability to defend itself. The Eagle is surrounded by "United States of America," "One Dollar," and "In God We Trust.".
This rare Morgan Dollar is a true gem for any collector and is a must-have for those who appreciate the value of rare coins. The strike on this Silver Dollar showcases the intricate details of the design, making it a beautiful addition to any collection.
The coin will be encased in the Original Government Packaging (OGP), which is a long-term preservation holder. The holder is made to enhance the presentation of the encapsulated coin and protects against tampering.
It has the original Certificate of Authenticity (COA) and comes in a felt lined box.
