Launched January 2006, the New Horizons interplanetary space probe was the first spacecraft to explore Pluto and its Moons up close. Flying by the dwarf planet on July 14, 2015, New Horizons mission stunned everyone when it revealed Pluto to be much more than just a cold cratered iceball.
In early 2019, New Horizons flew past its second major science target—2014 MU69, the most distant object ever explored up close.
