Product Description

At Clos LaChance Vineyards, only the best varietals from the best blocks in a great year get to make the Reserve Tier of wines. Each year Jason Robideaux, the winemaker at Clos LaChance Vineyards, selects the best varietals from that vintage and narrows down to the best lots within that varietal. These special wines get the Reserve tag and are bottled specifically for the Tasting Room and Wine Club distribution only. In 2015, the Cabernet Franc from the Estate Vineyards was one of these phenomenal wines to make the cut. Cabernet Franc is a tough grape to grow and a tough wine to make, so it only makes the reserve tier every few years, making the 2015 a truly unique wine and hard to come by bottle.

The Reserve Cabernet Franc off of the Clos LaChance Estate is grafted to a split canopy system allowing for maximum sun light to hit the clusters and ripen the fruit evenly and consistently with tough thickened skins. The soils in this area of the vineyard are shallow and rocky allowing for great drainage but harsh conditions for the root structure. This yields lower quantities of grapes but much higher quality and a more complex tannin structure in the skins. The grapes are handpicked and hand sorted prior to a 72 hour cold soak at 40 degrees F. During fermentation, the wine is pumped over 4 times per day during peak fermentation to maximize extraction. Post fermentation, the wine is held on skins for 48 hours to extend maceration and provide even more color and tannin extraction. The wine is then aged for 16 months on 25% New French Oak, 10% New American Oak, and the remainder is aged on a mix of neutral American and French oak.
