It depends on what alcohol you have too. 91% will burn faster but the flame will be higher.

Does the outside get hot?

Yes, the outside will get hot. Please wait until it is cold to the touch to move or refill.

What percent alcohol should you use the get the most burn time?

For the most burn time, 70% would be best, but the flame won't be as good as 91%.
