For over 40 years, Dictador has been meticulously perfecting the art of making rum according to family recipes and techniques. Now the time has come for this superior-aged rum to find its way to the workshops of some of the most outstanding artists of the spirit world—artists who expertly craft distinct categories of alcohol in the most exquisite ways imaginable. The result is a spirit which blurs the lines between categories and is rivaled by no other.

2 Masters 1978 Hardy Blend Rum begins with Dictador rum single vintage casks finished in Sherry casks. It is then shipped to Hardy in Cognac, where it was further carefully blended by Master Mickaël Bouilly who used his Chauffe légère 350 liters oak cask from 1954 for the process. The rum spent at least 7 months in Cognac cask.

The 1978 Hardy Blend is a deep mahogany with flashes of gold and bronze out to the rim, showing immense viscosity with long painted legs in the glass. The nose opens with vanilla, fudge and butterscotch, but has a character reminiscent of a great Cognac. It's very complex with notes of some dried figs and apricots, then pencil shavings and hints of damp earth. This heady tipple coats the palate with an impressive array of flavonoids including an overlay of nutmeg on milk chocolate, toffee, sea-salt caramel, and a beautiful softness without the sweetness, a great marriage. There is a rise on the mid-palate before it fades slowly into a minute-long supple and silky finish that is pierced only by flashes of oak, pure rum character, and raisins.
