For over 40 years, Dictador has been meticulously perfecting the art of making rum according to family recipes and techniques. Now the time has come for this superior-aged rum to find its way to the workshops of some of the most outstanding artists of the spirit world—artists who expertly craft distinct categories of alcohol in the most exquisite ways imaginable. Each artist has been selected to represent their own category of alcohol based on exceptional craftsmanship that is beyond compare. They each receive specially selected barrels of Dictador rum to continue the unique maturing process in a different cellar, on a different continent, under the expertise of another Cellar Master. The result is a spirit which blurs the lines between categories and is rivaled by no other.
2 Masters Despagne is a 37 year-old Dictador Rum from a 1980 single vintage cask finished in sherry casks, then shipped to Despagne, Entre-deux-Mers, Bordeaux, France to be finished by Master Winemaker Thibault Despagne. The rum spent 6 months in this barrel, originally filled up with Château Mont Pérat Bordeaux red wine—one of the Despagne flagship's from the family.
Matured in: Francis cooper, Selmer barrel, light heat, made from a mix of oak wood from North East French forests, Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
Nose
The dark ripe fruits from Château Mont Pérat Bordeaux red wine comes through as an overlay of brambleberries, dried cherries, and huckleberry sauce over soft sherry-infused maple syrup and Madagascar vanilla beans; very complex indeed.
Palate
An overwhelming marriage of dark fruits and sweet rum, giving it layer upon layer of rich textured mouthfeel with tons of dried fruits and wine influences. The finish is magnificent and has touches of a French summer countryside fruit basket with rich sherry-infused oak character.
Color
Deep and nearly inky-bronze colored rum with ultra-high viscosity and flashes of golden bronze at the edges.
