Product Description

After making wine in Argentine since 1988, Michel Rolland wanted to create a new project form the ground up. Seduced by the gravelly, infertile soil and continental, semi-desert climate of the Uco Valley's high plateaus, he had a vision of something completely different. He wanted to take a place that took the name of it's terroir, to plant his own vineyard that embodied everything he learned, with all the resources he envisioned. The land was divided into seven plots in 1999, and thus was born Clos de los Siete.

Michel Rolland is a rock star winemaking consultant who influences wine style around the world. Michel was destined to work in wine. Born in a hospital in Libourne, less than 450 yards from the Pomerol appellation and two and a half miles from Maillet, he grew up walking through vineyards with his grandfather who sold wines under the Château Le Bon Pasteur label. Introduced to viticulture by his father, Michel studied oenology at the University of Bordeaux and in 1973, along with his oenologist wife Dany, took over a large laboratory in Libourne.

Michel’s consulting duties have taken him to four continents and more than 150 different estates exposing him to a variety of climates and conditions.

Grown at 3600 feet, the Mariflor Malbec comes from estate vineyards on the uppermost section of the Clos de los Siete vineyard in Vista Flores, Uco Valley, Mendoza.

For Michel and Dany Rolland, Mariflor is “a place, a wine, and a Concept,” that has materialized through their two-decade enchantment with, and immersion in, the country of Argentina. The estate is named after their first-born daughter, Marie (“Marie-Flor”) the suffix meaning “flower”. The winery, “Bodega Rolland” is composed of 54 small thermos-regulated concrete vats, unique in the region, designed under the supervision of a Bordeaux specialist, and equipped to handle grapes by gravity and a battery of wooden tanks.

93 Points, James Suckling
"The nose to this Malbec is subtle and very much in tune with iodine, violets, slate and hints of ink. Full body, lots of firm, chewy tannins and a structured finish. Drink in 2022” - 93 Points, James Suckling,
