Product Description

Louis-Camille Maillard was a French chemist who discovered the chemical reaction between amino acids and reducing sugars. Now this may not sound all that interesting but it is this chemical reaction that gives us the browning and delicious taste of seared steaks, fried food, cookies, bread, and more. Named after Maillard, the Maillard Reaction is responsible for many colors and flavors that we find when browning or searing food. The Maillard Reaction is also responsible for the malted barley found in malt whiskey and beer.

The 10" Damascus steel slicing and carving knife has been named after Maillard and his contribution to science and delicious food. Made from 256 layers of 1095 and 15n20 steels, this knife will make short work of that succulent smoked brisket or Thanksgiving turkey. At 2mm thin and a Rockwell Hardness just under 60, the blade is thin and has just enough flex for all your slicing duties. This gorgeous knife will be a show stopper at your next dinner party or backyard barbecue.

Each knife in this collection is individually handmade with the same dedication to detail, and with all-natural materials. This means that each knife will vary slightly in its exact color, shape, and pattern, so you can rest assured that absolutely no two knives - even of the same model - will ever look identical or mass-produced.

Note: Damascus steel can rust if not cared for properly. Do not keep Damascus steel in a leather sheath for long periods of time, as the leather can cause the steel to rust. Damascus steel should be regularly oiled with any household oil over the course of its life to prevent corrosion.
