In 2006, Furthermore Wines created their first two barrels of Pinot Noir— about 50 cases of wine. The fruit came from the Bohemian Vineyard in Freestone just a few miles from Nevina’s Vineyard. Having discovered their love of wine together in the 90s, particularly for Pinot Noir, their mission was to begin conducting a long-term study of how Pinot Noir expresses itself regionally throughout California, particularly in areas influenced by coastal climates. All these years later, their mission remains the same. Though they've grown gradually over the years, Furthermore Wines remains a relatively small operation, producing about 2,000 cases annually from as far south as Santa Rita Hills in Santa Barbara County all the way up to Yorkville Highlands in Mendocino county, and many places in between.
People often ask where the name Furthermore came from. The founders like to say that the name alludes to the never ending dialog that they engage in as they explore the ethereal beauty and diversity of Pinot Noir, and how its expression in the glass is easily affected by the place where it is grown and the special circumstances of each vintage.
The 2016 Furthermore Graton Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir is fresh on the nose with fragrant aromas of cherry, red currant, and raspberry with a spice reminiscent of black tea and dried orange peel. The palate includes flavors of raspberry, blackberry, and chocolate covered cherry. Great acidity and a subtle minerality reminiscent of wet river rock.
This Furthermore Wines estate vineyard is located at the winery just outside the tasting room and shares a fence with neighbor Paul Hobbs. It is located on the western side of the Russian River Valley just north of Sebastopol and up the hill from the bucolic town of Graton. The vineyard is planted mostly to Pinot Noir along with fifteen rows of Chardonnay.
