Carbon Mk IV // Set of 2
Product Description
The German Physiks Carbon Mk IV is a 2-way omnidirectional loudspeaker. It uses one German Physiks DDD driver mounted on top of a compact octagonal cross-section cabinet, with a 12-inch downward firing woofer mounted in the base. The larger woofer, compared to the HRS-130, allows the Carbon Mk IV to provide even more impressively deep bass and to do so in even bigger rooms. The crossover circuit has been further refined to improve detail and dynamics and so provide yet greater musicality. As with the HRS-130, an octagonal cross-section cabinet is employed. This is more rigid than a standard square cross-section cabinet and therefore less likely to produce resonances that color the sound.
Like all German Physiks loudspeakers, the Carbon Mk IV allows you to hear a stereo image with the correct tonal balance in a wide range of positions in the room — much as you would in a real concert. Unlike a conventional loudspeaker, the Carbon Mk IV does not constrain you to one position in the room in order to hear a great sound. As with all German Physiks loudspeakers, the main driver (the DDD driver) covers almost the entire audio range and this avoids the commonly used crossover point in the mid-range, where our hearing is most sensitive, thereby improving clarity. The omnidirectional design makes it much less sensitive to room position to get a good sound. For a loudspeaker of this capability, it has a comparatively small footprint, 15.9” x 15.9”.

About the Designer
German Physiks managing director, Holger Mueller, became interested in loudspeaker design about 25 years ago, when he could not find a loudspeaker that sounded like real life. The development of the DDD driver solved this problem. The Borderland Mk I, the first German Physiks loudspeaker to use the DDD driver, was released in 1992. Mueller then set to work to design a range of loudspeakers using the DDD driver, always seeking to increase the sense of reality and emotion that could be achieved. His present objective is to design a smaller and simpler DDD driver that can be used for home theatre applications.
