Master tailor Ike Behar began making and selling his own shirts out of his small shop in New York City in 1957. His designs and the quality of his shirts caught the eyes of the public, as well as Ralph Lauren, who partnered with Behar to expand his collection beyond neckties. Throughout the rest of the 20th century, the company eschewed the practice of outsourcing, continuing to craft their exquisite collection of menswear and accessories on American soil.
