In the Finnish language, "vakio" means constant or standard, and in recent years Harri Koskinen has been quite the Finnish standard in design. Issey Miyake invited Koskinen to produce the VAKIO design concept when he was told it was based on Northern European industrial design with an orientation toward the kind of visual beauty that will last a lifetime. In other words, the concept and brief for this collection was simple: design a timeless time piece, with a new standard in mind—the future.
