Product Description

Kukeri Wines source grapes from some of the most unusual vineyards in Napa Valley and Sonoma County. "We treat that fruit as gently as possible, producing small lots of quality wines that display the complexity, power, finesse, and specific terroir of Cabernet Sauvignon grown in Mount Veeder, and Pinot Noir from Petaluma Gap, Los Carneros, and Russian River Valley."

True to the Mount Veeder appellation, this 2017 Kukeri Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits dark concentrated fruit flavors of wild blueberries, black paper, and cigar box; well-integrated fine-grained tannins with excellent lingering acidity and fantastic freshness. Big, bold with inky purple-black color and ultra-ripe on the attack, it's packed with flavors of small black-fruit preserves, accented by exotic spices and earthy accents. A hint of forest, cedar, and roast espresso flavors combine with these aromatics to create a massively rich full-bodied mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is a superb candidate for cellaring and should mature well over the next 10 to 15 years.

The unique terroir of Mount Veeder produces wines that are typically powerful in structure. The grapes for the signature 2017 Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon come from Meadowcroft vineyard located within 1200 feet elevation. The steep slopes, sedimentary clay and volcanic soils of the vineyard restrict the root growth, producing grapes with small berries and intensely concentrated fruit flavors.

Petar Kirilov, founder and winemaker of Kukeri Wines, grew up in Bulgaria, and graduated from the prestigious University of Food Technologies with a master’s degree in winemaking. He has worked at Truchard Vineyards, Meadowcroft Wines, and Foyt Wines as a winemaker. He created Kukeri Wines to focus on the production of small-lot quality wines from single vineyards.

Kukeri refers to a pagan Bulgarian ritual that may date back as far as 8,000 years to the ancient Thracians – and to Dionysus, the god associated with wine, fertility, and rebirth. The festival is replete with mystical symbolism, steeped as it is in a tradition representing the cycle of life, death, and rebirth.
