The MilSpec Elite KATTLAN (killer whalenin Hebrew) and the maritime ops KATTLAN differ in the steel the blade is constructed of.
The former uses a high carbon D2 steel which is intended to withstand hard use and abuse and is famous for its high tolerance of edge retention and toughness. The latter is constructed of H1 steel, the only true rustproof steel resistant to salt water and high humidity environment. The MilSpec Elite D2 model will require more maintenance and while the DLC and/or optional black titanium coating on the blade will protect it from showing signs of corrosion - its always advised to lube and clean it regularly.
The H1 blade will require zero cleanings nor lubrication however, the super tolerance to corrosion means your edge will need more frequent maintenance like stropping or occasional sharpening to keep it razor edge.
