Everyone's familiar with chromium as "chrome", that super shiny quintessence of what metal should be. Of course, what they're looking at is only a very thin electrolytic ally deposited layer and oftentimes it isn't even real chromium but aluminum.

Real-to-the-core chromium is an expensive, brittle metal whose beauty only goes skin deep in most cases. For these purposes though, chromium's fragility doesn't matter one bit and we can enjoy instead its icy blast of white looks.

Here we have the real McCoy in a chunk or two of crystalline chromium metal weighing about 20 grams and embedded in a block of crystal clear Lucite acrylic.
