Luciteria
Lucite Cube // Niobium
Product Description
Niobium is one of the few non-precious metals widely used in jewelry making. In addition to taking on beautiful colors via anodization, niobium does not react negatively with skin contact or even when permanently inside the human body. Less interestingly, niobium joins many other transition metals which are used in small quantities as an additive for specialty steel alloys as a hardener. Almost all niobium comes from one tiny spot in Brazil— a fact that hasn't escaped industrialists worried about souring international relations, or perhaps simple greed, which can have major consequences for the economies of many nations.
A 20 gram rod of pure niobium is suspended inside this beautifully finished block of acrylic, five centimeters to a side, providing its owner with a very handsome and durable presentation of the element.
