Luciteria
Selenium
Product Description
Selenium is little known other than for its use in dandruff shampoo and as a vitamin supplement of dubious medical value— hardly a glamorous claim to fame. Things are more interesting on the chemistry side with this particular element having several different allotropes. Gray is the most readily available followed by black and the quite rare red form which is little more than a lab curiosity. Although the gray allotrope is the most commonly seen— which this particular piece is a specimen of— the industrial samples typically come as ugly small spheres. Here however a special casting has turned it into a nest of swirls that allow the viewer to better appreciate the texture and character of this rather obscure element.
