Product Description

The Glenlivet Distillery can trace its origins back to 1822, in the remote and isolated Livet valley where founder George Smith learned his craft. His illicit whisky still was located on the estate of the Duke of Gordon and earned quite a reputation. In fact, it is said that when King George IV arrived in Scotland, he asked to try a drop of the infamous Glenlivet whisky. The Duke of Gordon sponsored legislation in 1823 that made whiskey distilling legal in the UK, it just so happened that George Smith was the first one granted a license. Today, Glenlivet honors Smith's vision by continuing to break traditions, set new standards, and move things forward.

One of the “Big Three” Single Malt producers, their whiskies are Speyside in character. The water for the mash comes famously from “Josie’s Well” nearby. Glenlivet produces a wide variety of Single Malt agings and cask combinations, with the remaining spirit an indispensable component in some of the most famous blends.

The Glenlivet 14 Year Old Sherry Butt Single Cask is like a beautiful fractal design—mathematical precision and simplicity left alone to do its scientific alchemy. It begins with Glenlivet’s famous Speyside Single Malt, which is placed into a 500-liter Sherry butt for fourteen years. The casks are not married or blended. They are poured directly into bottles at cask strength without chill-filtering or artificial coloring and the individual cask number is written on the bottle. A rare and beautiful simplicity. Pure engineered artistry.
