Chairman's Reserve is considered Saint Lucia's finest rum. Denis Barnard built the original distillery on the eastern coast of the island in 1931, which became known as St. Lucia Distillers in 1972 after merging with the only other remaining distillery on the island. By the mid 1990s, St. Lucia Distillers' Chairman, Laurie Barnard, was adamant it was time for change: "If we are to export our rum we need to be different; we need to have the tools to make great rum the old way. A column still and molasses is one dimensional." Thus began a journey which saw the commissioning of three pot stills to add to the existing Coffey still, as well as the replanting of sugar cane that had ceased back in 1962. Ever innovative, never content with mediocrity, and possessed by a fierce competitive steak, Laurie drove the idea of having a diversity of rums from different stills and aged in contrasting woods so that the blender would have a palate of maturates from which to create a great rum.

Chairman’s Reserve 2009 Vintage Saint Lucia Rum is a unique blend of 11 year old rums from pot stills (John Dore 2 & Vendome) and Coffey still. The rums are aged independently for 11 years in ex-bourbon barrels before being expertly blended by head blender, Deny Duplessis. They are then reintroduced to the oak for a few more months in order to perfectly incorporate.

Tasting Notes
— Color: Vibrant golden brown color
— Nose: Intense honeyed raisin nose with toffee, banana, vanilla, and tobacco tones
— Palate: Concentrated and powerful palate with sweet candied tropical fruits, tobacco, and spices; buttery toasted oak gives structure and depth as well as a smooth complex finish of leather and dark chocolate
