The name Martin Ray resonates deeply in the history of California winemaking. Dedicated to crafting single varietal, region specific bottlings, he set a precedence for the future of wine. Today, in the heart of the Russian River Valley, we continue this approach, striving to make premium, terroir driven wines from choice appellations and iconic locations. Each climate offers something new, each vintage an exploration of place.

Always late to bloom and ripen, Howell Mountain develops an intensity and concentration of fruit unlike its other Napa counterparts. Deep, chewy tannins and savory tertiary notes, with a rich midpalate.

The 2017 Martin Ray Cabernet Sauvignon presents dried blackberry bramble with black currant and notes of bay laurel and eucalyptus. Deep rustic touches of kalamata olive and cigar box, with intense, sinewy tannins and touches of green peppercorn on the finish.

Howell Mountain is known for its unique terroir which defines it wines, offering deep fruit tones and a quintessential herbaceous character. Candlestick Vineyard is planted at 1400 ft, with soil composition of decomposed volcanic ash and red clay. These nutrient poor conditions stress the vines, resulting in low yields and intense fruit. Variable growing conditions with drastic shifts in temperature, lingering fog, and warm daytime afternoons make this wine complex, developed and ideal for aging.
