Mike Cortese never seemed to have a pen on him when he needed it. He wanted a pen small enough that he could carry around in his pocket, on a keychain, or attached to something; non-retractable so that he couldn't stain his pocket; and with a tough cap that wouldn't come off, or get loose, to keep the pen on hand and minimize accidents. He remember seeing a detachable key ring in an EDC forum a long time beforehand. And after months of painstaking research, development, and crafting, the QDC Mini Pen was born.
