Michel Rolland was destined to work in wine. Born less than 450 yards from the Pomerol appellation, he grew up walking through vineyards with his grandfather who sold wines under the Château Le Bon Pasteur label. Michel studied oenology at the University of Bordeaux and in 1973, along with his oenologist wife Dany, took over a large laboratory in Libourne. Michel’s consulting duties have taken him to four continents and more than 150 different estates, exposing him to a variety of climates and conditions.

Michel was first brought to Argentina and Cafayate by Arnaldo Etchart in 1988. Seduced by the remarkable potential of an old Malbec vineyard 6,700 feet above sea level, Michel and Arnaldo created a partnership to make the wines of San Pedro de Yacochuya.

Yacochuya wines were the first to be barrel fermented in Argentina. The grapes are hand-picked from the 60 year-old vines of Finca Yacochuya in Valles Calchaquíes, and the wines are aged in French oak barrels. These wines are the ultimate combination of the Finca Yacochuya vineyard, the Etchart family’s grape-growing knowledge in this unique high-altitude region of Cafayate, and the passion and expertise from one of the world’s pre-eminent winemakers.
