Almond Blossom is one of van Gogh's most uplifting pieces. He loved painting flowering trees, as he considered them a symbol of hope and awakening. Van Gogh painted many almond blossoms over the course of his career, but he painted this particular piece as a gift to his brother on the occasion of his son's birth. He was very close to his brother and he sought to symbolize new life in the flowers of the almond tree for the birth of the baby, named Vincent Willem van Gogh.

About the Designer
Vincent van Gogh (1853—1890) went from relative obscurity during his lifetime to becoming one of the most recognized names in 19th century art. The Dutch post-Impressionist painter's work is characterized by rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color. Unfortunately, he did not start painting until his 20's and died at the young age of 37.
