About the Designer

David Choi studied metal in undergrad (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) and grad (SUNY New Paltz). Namq Kang studied advertising in undergrad (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), and film in grad (Art Center College of Design). They met in undergrad and continued their friendship until today.

After school, David pursued his career as a fine art jewelry artist, working mostly with galleries and exhibitions. Namq pursued his dream as a filmmaker. One day, Namq requested a special order for one of David’s jewelry for his shoots, and while he was working, he came up with an idea of making a brand with that piece. David and Namq always shared a common aesthetics of being inspired by simple things. The two decided to create a brand so that they could solely focus on that idea of making minimal, yet eloquent jewelry. Mute Object was born.
