Product Description

During the period from around 1782 to 1866, when metal coinage was scarce in circulation and paper money as we know it did not exist, many private banks and corporations printed, issued, and circulated their own banknotes. Now referred to as obsolete or “broken” banknotes, these defunct notes served as an important means of currency in a cash poor nation. Offered here are 5 difficult to acquire notes of varying denominations, printed, but never issued, by the Bank of Augusta Georgia during the Civil War. Each note was printed on the back of a $4 obsolete note as a method of conserving paper. This set includes a 5, 10, 25, 50, and 75 cent notes. Each note is printed on bright, crisp paper with vivid red coloring that is remarkable for its 150+ year old age. You will receive the exact notes shown in the photos.
