Olevian Numismatic Rarities
1897 South African 2 Shilling // PCGS Certified MS62 // Wood Presentation Box
Product Description
Collecting "world coinage"—that is, coins minted outside the United States from our American perspective, can be a fun and rewarding hobby. The acquisition of world coinage allows collectors to extend their collection to periods prior to the historical founding of the United States and to incorporate designs, compositions, and motifs otherwise not seen in U.S. coinage. The vast catalogue of world coinage can allow collectors to focus on a variety of geographic regions or eras depending on their preference or to explore the history of their heritage by pursuing coins of a specific region or nation such as Central America, Ireland, and so on. In addition, while U.S. coinage has a long history of preservation by collectors, there are many examples of interesting and hard-to-find world coins that could sometimes be acquired at lower price points compared to United States issues.
Offered here is a late-20th century silver 2 shilling issued from South African. The coin is a difficult to find mint state example with a low mintage of less than only 150,000. This coin features the likeness of Paul Kruger which is still preserved in modern South African gold and silver. You will receive the unique coin shown in the photos, certified by PCGS to be in Mint State-condition, and housed in a plush-lined box with certificate of authenticity.
