Giovanni Panerai opened his watchmaking shop in Florence in 1860, serving as the city’s first watchmaking school as well. His reputation grew, and by the early 20th century, Officine Panerai was supplying high precision instruments to the Royal Italian Navy. Starting with the Radiomir in 1916, the manufacturer began a long history of patents and industry-leading advances that would reshape watchmaking and propel the Panerai name into one of international prestige.
