Product Description

Penley Estate lies in the heart of Coonawarra, a region of Australia known for its Cabernet wines. Coonawarra Terra Rossa soil is famous for its ability to produce terroir-driven wines that have true regional character.

Wet conditions following the end of the 2017 vintage carried on through winter and spring with above average rainfall for the start of the 2018 season. In the Penley Estate vineyards, steps were taken to ensure optimum canopies for the conditions. Shoot thinning was employed to improve canopy microclimate where necessary. Existing populations of native grasses and cover crops were left to grow and these competed with vines for moisture, restricting vine growth and keeping shoots from growing beyond ideal length and density.

Powerful yet restrained, The 2018 Helios Cabernet Sauvignon features a combination of dark fruits, savory notes, and focused tannin. A complex nose full of blackcurrant, plum, and licorice is supported by notes of savory French oak. The palate is concentrated and layered, driven by a core of succulent fruit and structural balanced tannin. A medium bodied framework with a savory, earthy tannin profile. It's a wine with excellent length and persistence. This wine can be enjoyed now, but will also reward those patient enough to cellar.
