Do you need to take it out of a case for it work?

It depends on how thick your case is. If it's an Apple MagSafe compatible case, then it will work with the case on it.

Will it charge android or is it only for iPhones?

This product is only for iPhone 12 series because of the MagSafe feature that allows the iPhone to magnetically stick to the charging car dock.

Does it work with Car Play?

The CarMag is a wireless charger for your iPhone 13 & iPhone 12 series. It magnetically attaches the iPhone to the charging dock. The charging dock comes with an integrated vent mount that attache dto your car's air vent. It should still work for the iPhone's Car Play functionality.
