Product Description

The Bioluminescent Bio-Turtle is an interactive night light, air purifier, objet d'art, conversation starter, and science lesson all in one incredible glass sphere. This hand blown glass micro-aquarium is filled with bioluminescent plankton (algae) that produce mesmerizing blue light at night when gently swirled.

The Bio-Turtle will light up naturally, night after night, with minimal care. The living PyroDino marine plankton responsible for this glow are classified as Pyrocystis fusiformis (aka Dinoflagellates) and can be found in oceans all over the world. Much like a houseplant, they require light to grow, and work to refresh your space by pulling CO2 and other pollutants out of the air and replacing it with fresh oxygen.

To get started, simply pour the contents of the included PyroDino pouches into the Bio-Turtle, then place it in a moderately well lit area out of direct sunlight. Wait five to seven days before feeding with DinoNutrients, and watch as your unique miniature aquarium comes to life in spectacular fashion.

Is there something used to hold this object?

No. The Bioluminescent Bio-Turtle has its own legs to stand on.

How much light do they need?

Light requirement are similar to a leafy houseplant. They will do well in a location where a houseplant would thrive.

How long do the dinoflagellates live with the included food?

Care and longevity are similar to a houseplant. With proper care and environment, PyroDinos (dinoflagellates) can thrive for several months to a year or more.

Do they have to have sunlight or can they have artificial light to live on?

Indirect sunlight or artificial light is good. A combination of both will work as well.

In the video do you have to keep swirling it around or does it stay on and then fade over time?

Bioluminescence (the natural blue light produced by the PyroDinos) is transient and will only occur during nighttime hours while being moved or swirled.
