The Waltham Watch Company, also know as the American Watch Co., produced roughly 40 million watches, clocks, speedometers, compasses, and other precision instruments between 1850 and 1957. Each watch movement produced was engraved with an individual serial number, which can be used to estimate the date or production. Today, the company's historic 19th-century manufacturing facility in Waltham, Massachusetts has been preserved as the American Waltham Watch Company Historic District.
