This is a spotting scope, not necessarily an astronomy scope, but you can certainly use it for moon gazing.

The tripod can swivel and tilt, but the height is fixed—about 9 inches. However, the scope can be mounted to ANY standard tripod.

Is it waterproof?

The scope is weatherproof which is more like water-resistant. It can handle the elements but I wouldn't submerge it.
