Product Description

Turn any dish into a delicacy with the nuanced floral flavor of saffron. Prized for its exceptional flavor and aroma, Saffos premium grade saffron threads are hand harvested and lab tested to guarantee premium grade quality to transform your risottos, paellas, seafood, rice, desserts, and tea.

Saffron is regarded as the world’s most expensive spice due to the labor and land-intensive cultivation process. Saffron is derived from the red stigmas (threads) of saffron flowers, which grow in very unique conditions and only bloom once a year for about a week. These delicate flowers are handpicked before sunrise so that the petals remain closed to help protect the stigmas. Local farmers then separate the stigmas from the petals and dry them for 12 hours. Each flower only produces 3 stigmas, requiring as many as 150,000 flowers and 40 hours of labor to produce 1 kilo of saffron.

Saffos was founded with a simple goal: to make high quality saffron products accessible to everyone, while improving the lives of the communities that cultivate their products. They do this by building direct relationships with women-owned businesses in Afghanistan who share their commitment to quality testing and product transparency. Saffos reinvests 5% of their profits into programs that help empower and create opportunities for Afghan women.
