The light does not heat up easily, and has low enough lumens where it will never get too hot.

How long does this work on a portable 4000mah battery pack?

It should last 100's of hours.

Is there software that would allow one to dim or brighten the LED reading light or to dim it? If so, is it included?

Unfortunately, the LED does not have a dimmer or software that enables dimming.

There is no on/off switch. Just plug it in and remove it to turn off.
