Shire Post Mint founder Tom Maringer uses the same techniques employed to make coins in the 1800s: hand-engraving steel dies and pressing one at a time on mechanical coin presses. After a few years of research and refinement, Tom's impeccable work caught the eye of George R.R. Martin, who was interested in having coins made from his new series of books, A Song of Ice and Fire™. Since then, Shire Post Mint has grown from Tom's weekend project to a full blown family business creating officially licensed coins spanning all the way from the furthest reaches of Middle Earth, to the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros.
