Douglas Laube

Douglas Laube was destined for design; even his first grade art teacher told him he was going to be an architect. Throughout his education he excelled in all fields of creativity and things mechanical. Doug started his formal education in architecture and then moved into industrial design. After working in Industrial Design for 4 years he started his own practice in Texas, Ignition, here he integrated mechanical engineering with design. As the firm grew he added a robust research competency to the process with anthropologists on staff. Ignition became a world class design firm with offices in Dallas, Hong Kong and Taipei. Several of the products were very successful and made his clients very wealthy. Doug has won numerous design awards and over 50 patents, his most meaningful being a Design of the Decade award from IDSA/Business week for the design of the first Leap Frog products. Doug has always had his focus on the business of design for many Fortune 100 companies. He is the product architect at his latest company, Invent Design Make, and this is where he designed Spree Fitness Monitor. The design for the headband was inspired by the Salvator Dali Museum in Tampa Bay, where part of the structure is a glass dome with triangular steel and glass walls. This structure is hurricane proof and yet lets in immense amounts of light and provides for great views. The sturdiness, flexibility and transparency led Doug to creation of the triangular cavity silicone band that holds the electronic sensor in place, while being light, comfortable, flexible and channeling sweat from the skin and eyes. It also created a unique futuristic look.
