From the company that put the first watch in space on the wrist of Yuri Gagarin, comes a new timepiece like none other in the history of Russian horology. The Mars watch is the culmination of a 5-year collaboration between Sturmanskie and the Russian Space Agency. Designed to be the trainer watch for cosmonauts, every component is constructed to withstand the rigors of space exploration. The watch was first presented to members of the Russian Space Agency, and is finally available to the public.
The entire movement is encased in the beryllium which is then housed inside a hardened mineral crystal compartment, so the watch appears to float as in "zero gravity" inside the external case. The three-pronged connectors supporting the inner-case were inspired by the peripheral docking unit the Russians invented for the Soyuz class rockets. The engine is the Swiss ETA 2824 and water resistance is 100 meters or 10 ATM. Cosmonauts conduct a great deal of underwater training to simulate the experience of zero gravity space travel and this watch is designed specifically for this purpose — mechanical, anti-magnetic, anti-shock and water tightness. The exterior of the case is lined in stunning enamel with a lock-over crown system to ensure the crown is screwed in properly for maximum water resistance. Limited to a production of only 250 pieces per model, there will be only a small number released to each country.
