Designed in honor of the preciously limited daylight in the Scandinavian High Arctic region, the Svalbard Singular Quartz watch is part of an extremely limited edition run, with only 500 pieces ever made. Featuring just a single hand, it offers an extremely unique method of time-telling, on a dial designed to look like shifting ice and rippling Arctic winds. It operates on a classic Swiss quartz movement, and is covered by real sapphire crystal, making it a simple and gorgeous homage to a simple and gorgeous way of life.

Single hand watches may appear unconventional or even strange today, when everything is measured down to the second, but telling time using just a single clock hand used to be the standard method, dating as far back as the 16th century, when pocket watches first became popularized. It was a slower time. The lack of a minute hand means it is only possible to tell time with an accuracy of 5-10 minutes, continuing an ages-old method of measuring time.

The introduction of a second hand must have seemed as odd to people in the late 17th century as single hand watches appear to us today. By having a design that recalls the early timepieces, single hand watches are imbued with a sense of classicism, whilst drawing attention to the early origins of the watchmakers' craft.
